Thanks for the info Deputy Dog~!
Not sure I'll need to go that far, though, but it's nice to know just in case!
i have recently been blessed with my wife (currently df'd jw) starting to look into some things, and she's read the book "questions for jehovah's witnesses" by the cetners.
she still feels she needs to see something she feels is more reliable for dates such as the 1925 patriarchs, etc, and when i was doing research, i noticed the best quotes to show seem to be from books such as the millions now living will never die and the way to paradise, but they're really old, and i couldn't find any available on e-bay or as reprints on cds on my search.
does anybody know a way to get ahold of these books?
Thanks for the info Deputy Dog~!

my wife got dunked, so i am an "unbelieving mate" (ubm).
however that name does offend me.
i do believe in god, and i am deeply grateful for christ's sacrifice.
Tell them that you enjoy a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He knows it and you know it. So... do they have anything better to offer you than what you already have.
Now THAT would also be a great question~!
Cool thread.
i've just learned from a trusted contact at thewatchtower.org 'norris', that the society intend to put a resolution to the congregations shortly - though definately not at the 'special talk' meeting next month.. here's the scary bit.
this resolution needs to be responded to by all baptized jehovah's witnesses.
we have not been able to get hold of the wording but have been informed it is intended to provide the brotherhood with the opportunity to affirm their loyalty to jehovah and his organization.

That pledge to the WT was hilarious~!
i have a friend she is disfellowshipped.
she suffers from depression.
she wants to go back.
remember being told that the elders also want to observe whether or not one sings and whether they have underlined the study articles. Funny, I don't recall seeing that in the scriptures.
And based on my recent Memorial experience, even when they do have things "based" on scripture, the scriptures themselves are taken remarkably out of context~!
My (currently DF'd) wife told me they expect you to be present in front of the people. She was having crying spells at one point previously when she was being reproved for a while and said the elders wanted her to be in the main meeting, which she was having a very hard time doing.
I wish it were me instead of her; I'd be drawing pictures of the elders picking their own @sses, etc. and let them catch me underlining that~! Of course, that'd be easy for me to do since I don't agree at all with their views and DF'ing/shunning policies even though I'm sure there are decent elders out there that internally agree some of these policies are just simply hurtful and medievally ignorant.
an elder came over last monday to invite me over to the memorial, and i went.
i also went to the sunday meeting.
they were happy to see me, and now the elder that came over monday, wants to come over again, this time with another elder..... for those that don't know, i'm inactive since y e a r s. i go to the memorial, and usually, that's it.
Hi JH,
This is what I felt like at the hall
Please forgive me if this question may be too personal; why did you go to the Sunday service, as well? Are you in the midst of trying to figure out whether you want to be a JW or not, or have you gone for family reasons, etc.?
Again, sorry for the questions, but I'm thinking if you're still searching for answers and aren't sure of your full stance, I don't think you're a "rat/mole". Admittedly it's very easy for me to know my stance since I've never been a JW, but seeing my wife's DF'ing and its impact on her, I can understand some people's feelings and reluctance to want to address the situation any further and stay faded.
In conjunction with a couple others on here, I agree that if you have a good reason, such as family or possibly not sure of your view of the society/possibly wanting to remain a JW based on beliefs, it might be a good idea to be really nice and not go into info that could get you DF'd. If you have to lie to keep from getting DF'd, please remember that these people would likely DF you in a second based on some messed up "new light" that could appear in any new WT mag.
Best wishes~!
Leonard
i still keep in touch with many witness associates (am not disassociated or dissfellowhsipped---trying to fade).
anyways, so a witness that i am not acqainted with sent an email out to everybody about one of his work days.
i thought it was pretty funny so i will post it below:.
Sad and Lonely,
I can't knock what you're saying, but I have to wonder if part of the reason you didn't understand the preaching was your age (unless the preacher was just speaking in a way that sounded like the "Taz" or something~! ). Also, you may not know the reasoning behind your sister moving around (dancing, likely) and so misunderstand it.
Remember, wasn't it David danced before the Lord with all his might, and the one who was so against it ended up being in the wrong? This isn't to say I know for sure the cases of which you speak and have seen some evangelical stuff going on I don't agree with, either. But this may be scriptural, after all. Even if that's the case, there are plenty of other churches who teach the Word very clearly and who aren't into intense dancing/praise & worship, etc., and that might be a better fit for you and surely wouldn't bother me to be in that type of church, either~!

Instruments that produce live music rather than the canned variety, candles, goblets, beautiful glass, the horror of it all. I would really hate to go to church in a place like that. I'd much rather to go one isn't called a church, that has no windows, some sad little fake plants in what looks like a stripped down classroom or low rent board meeting room where they don't have men of the cloth, but rather some janitor/window washer/carpet cleaner that can teach me the deep and subtle points of faith that all of these pompus churches have somehow missed or have been blinded to by the demunzzz, although I think I would make the sign of the cross when I go, just to put a smile on my face.
+ 1~!
i came across this picture some time ago and i just think it's funny!
lol!
i wonder what in the world he sees in there?
he just read that god will kill him for masterbating!
[edited: jic a little offensive, deleted my original post. ]
hi everyone.... i was "raised" as a dub and got baptised in '86...so in total i had been a jw for over 20 years.
i came to realize that the "way of life" i was living was in fact made up of mostly lies.
i started "questioning" the borg about 6 years ago and finally came out with almostatheist last sept. i know in my heart that they are mostly wrong and very legalist.
I had to challenge my own assumptions. That was my key. My assumptions were my filters that everything else had to pass through and they were flawed.
Garybuss,
Thanks again for the links earlier, and I totally like how you put your response~!

Honesty, what exactly did it say? I kinda' have an idea but am just curious (I'm thinking about getting a CD or 2 of previous WT literature that shows problems with doctrines, prophecies, etc.).
